Home remedies for bruises include margarine, witch hazel, onion, ice or cold water, turmeric, lemon, salvia, herbal tea, olive oil, mullein flowers, black coffee, lavender oil, sugar or honey, alfa alfa, pepper, Vaseline, cayenne, arnica, chamomile, yarrow, comfrey leaves, parsley leaves, spinach, broccoli and lettuce. Bruise refers to a discoloration of the skin that is the outcome of any kind of physical injury like cut, wound and accident etc. This results in rupture of the adjacent blood vessel which breaks its content to the surrounding skin tissue. It is demarcated by swelling, softness, redness and pain in the region that has undergone bruise. Home remedies are available that causes complete healing of the bruise in a few days to months for severe injuries.
Home remedies for bruises are among best ways to tackle this skin problem. According to MedlinePlus, bruise represents a part of skin that has become decolorized due to an injury, cut, wound, fall, accident or sports. This is the outcome of damage in the blood vessel leaking the content out under the skin tissue. The extent of bruise depends on the injury and may take months if bones are bruised.
The symptoms after an individual gets bruised are as follows
• Swelling or bump
• Pain
• Redness with bluish tinge
• Tender and supple
• Pain in muscles while using the body part affected
Several home remedies for bruises are known to human race. Some of these are mentioned as under:
• Margarine: Margarine can be applied on over the bruise. It will soon subside the swelling.
• Witch Hazel: Witch hazel has wonderful property of healing cuts and wounds and reducing the swelling in the same. These can be applied over the bruise and can cure the bruise within a few days.
• Onion: If the skin is not cut at the wound, then raw onion can be sliced and kept over it. It will give relief in the bruised area.
• Ice or Cold Water: Cold water can be poured at the bruised region. This results in constriction of the blood vessels at the wound site and has been found to be effective in relieving one from bruises.
• Turmeric: Turmeric is the best known healer of wounds and injuries. Mix turmeric powder in a cup of warm milk and drink the same every morning. It is good to drink it empty stomach and can give help in healing within a few days.
• Lemon: Cut a piece of lemon and keep it over the bruise. It is one of the easiest and earliest home remedy that can be administered to the individual. Lemon is a good source of vitamin C that is required at the time of wound healing for thickening of blood vessels and treating internal hemorrhage.
• Salvia: Salvia leaves are spread on the affected region and are then wrapped by a bandage.
• Herbal Tea: Prepare herbal tea from hops, comfrey or white oak bark. This can then be applied on the bruised area.
• Olive Oil and Mullein Flowers: Steep some mullein flowers in olive oil and apply on the affected area. This will result in early recovery of wounds.
• Black Coffee: Grind a little amount of black coffee and apply it over the cut. Cover the area with a bandage. This will heal the wound in few days.
• Lavender Oil: On the bruised portion some lavender oil can also be applied. This gives relief from pain.
• Sugar or Honey: As the cut paves way for the micro organism to develop, it is important to keep the cut aseptic. Sugar can be sprinkled or some honey can be poured over the bruise or cut so that the germs may not grow due to concentrated solutes present at the site. This can then be covered with a bandage.
• Alfa Alfa: Alfa alfa is a rich source of Vitamin K that is essential factor in blood clotting. It can be administered more when a bruise or wound has occurred.
• Pepper, Vaseline and Cayenne: A mixture of cayenne and pepper in a large volume of melted Vaseline has been shown to have healing effects on the bruise if applied directly.
• Arnica, Chamomile and Yarrow: The three can be mixed together to form an herbal infusion. This works well against bruises because of the mixture’s anti-inflammatory properties.
• Comfrey Leaves: Comfrey leaves can be grinded to form a paste that can be applied at the bruised region, cuts or wounds.
• Parsley: Leaves of parsley can also be spread over the wound which is covered by a bandage.
• Spinach, Broccoli and Lettuce: As per University of Iowa Health Care, it is good to consume spinach, broccoli and lettuce as they are rich in vitamin K which is an important factor in clotting.
Small bruise and cuts heal either themselves or by following some home remedies, but if the discoloration and accompanying pain is not reducing, then medical advice must be sought.
